A Perspective through Flying Stars Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology, and the IChing.

Before looking ahead, it serves us well to reflect a bit on where we’ve been. The Fire Rooster year of 2017 put on quite a show, didn’t it? It gave voice to many and created even more conflict than we could have imagined. The Rooster is not fond of dishonesty and the roost is getting cleaned out.

FLYING STARS and 4 PILLARS CHINESE ASTROLOGY
As we move into 2018, the year of the Yang Earth Dog (our Life Path/Manifesting Pillar of the 4 Pillar Chinese astrology chart), we are reminded what is important—
home and family. Getting back to the basics, simplicity, and focusing on what’s right here in front of us. Last year was complicated and we felt like we had to keep up with the quick and volatile energy. Enough of that!

Find calming activities that reconnect you to your family, extended family, close friends, and team members. The Dog had a rough year last year, with the #2 Illness Flying Star in his sector (the Northwest), so he needs time to recalibrate and ease his way back into things. His pack is important to him, it’s what gives him purpose and direction.

The two Rabbits (in our Spirit/Emotions pillar and Body/Health pillar) are about deep family roots and family trees. Whether you have a large family or not, we all have lineage and baggage. You’ll be supported this year if you’d like to explore those areas of your life as the #7 Karma Star flies into the Rabbit sector in the East. Maybe it’s recording a grandparent’s stories, going on a genealogy journey, Googling your family name to discover its history, or creating new traditions.

The fourth animal in the pillars is again the Tiger (in the Mind/Ego pillar). This reminds us of the duality we live in. There is no sitting on the fence for the Tiger. As a whole our minds are made up—are we for good or bad? Continue to get clear on where you stand, even if you have to let go of some old family or cultural beliefs that no longer serve you, your family, and humanity.

5 CHINESE ELEMENTS
The 5 Elements are imbalanced this year. While it’s a Fire year, the Fire is weakened—feeling suffocated—by the excessive Wood energy. Stay focused as Wood creates distractions and unfinished projects, relationships, habits, and processes. Anger is likely to run high this year. Let it be the impetus for change rather than fuel for anxiety. The Metal element is weak this year. Aside from adding the feng shui elements of Metal like metal jewelry, modern furnishings, glass, and tools in your space, ask yourself how you can incorporate more organization, structure, intention, and ways to stay focused. This will assist in keeping the Wood (anger) in its place. When we have a plan, and even a plan B, then it doesn’t matter what comes our way…we are prepared.

I CHING
There are many layers of concepts and methodologies to apply in the world of Chinese Metaphysics and Astrology. The I Ching is a profound divination tool to guide and support us along our path, as it provides more meaning and appreciation for the times. Because 2018 is ruled by Yang Earth and Dog (also Yang Earth) the Hexagram for our collective Life Path is Ken (Mountain over Mountain) revealing the theme of the year to be stillness. Stillness is achieved through meditation—where your thoughts are in this moment, rather than going beyond the situation at hand. Meditation is to be singly-focused, in-the-zone, or disconnected from time and space. The world is complex and chaotic. Your overall well-being, as well as those around you, will benefit from your desire to find inner peace, allowing you to respond in harmony with the times. Dispel illusions, fears, and judgments by avoiding thoughts that project too far into the future. The future cannot be mapped out at this point. Adopt a meditation practice to renew your physical and mental health.
