Home Shopping Via Feng Shui ~ Part 1

A fresh perspective for an exciting journey!

I’ve always wanted to work with a realtor one-on-one to assist families in making one of the biggest decisions of their life. Little did I know, it would be my family and the realtor a friend referred me to, when we decided to sell our house! What a blessing, as Sara came into our world with an open heart willing to learn and get on board with what was going to serve our family, not just in the way she was familiar with, but how to meet the needs we find important in such a big move.  Through our conversations, I was inspired to write this series of articles allowing the reader to see through feng shui eyes, the way I see the world…everyday of my life.

When searching for a home, put yourself in the position of being a visitor to the home. Say you invite a friend to come visit you at this new home. How would their journey be?

They start by looking up your address on Google Maps. How is it situated in the neighborhood? Where does it lie on the street? Is it on a dead end road—where there is no way out? A cul-de-sac—where energy isn’t allowed to move forward? Or on a busy road—making them question if they should bring their small child? How are the neighboring lands or structures positioned in relation to the home? Is your home next to a convenience store, a park, a cliff, or open land? Certain neighbors can either drain or support the energy of your home and family. What is going on across the street AND behind the home? Is there an elementary school across the street, a run-down home, a hospital or maybe a cemetery? Whatever you see every time you leave your home or walk out front, will be imprinted into your subconscious. Any imprinting needs to be positive by reinforcing joy and good health. As for the back of the home, is there a beautifully landscaped space where you feel supported with a fence and trees for privacy, or do you feel exposed because others can see in, or is there a drop off of the terrain because you live on the side of a hill or mountain? The things you work hard for, dream and set goals for, need to be contained on YOUR property. When the back of the property is not supporting and holding this good energy, you will experience loss of money, health, relationships, purpose, support, and joy.

Your visitor will pay attention to their drive into the neighborhood and the path to the home. Is it confusing or easy to get to? Does the neighborhood feel safe? Is it well kept? As the homeowner, you will have to make this drive daily. If your energy is depleted by looking at rundown property, or having to make twists and turns or having to adjust speed for speed bumps and several stops, your personal energy will weaken by the time you get home. The journey home should be pleasant and uplifting!

When your friend pulls up to your new home, is the address easy to see?  If your own friends and the mailman aren’t able to find your home easily to visit and deliver good news, how will good chi (energy) find you?! Is it clear where they should park? Do they need to put the emergency brake on in their car so it doesn’t roll down from a steep incline? Is the front yard clean and maintained? Healthy lush landscaping reflects a healthy home and family. Is the front door visible and is there easy access? Or do they need to walk across the grass (or through the snow) on the parking strip to get to a walk way? Is the path to the front door clear of debris and overhanging shrubs and tree branches? If there are obstructions, your friend’s energy will feel resistance and they’ll begin to wonder if you are truly open to receiving visitors.

Once your friend reaches the front entry, how many steps up to your door are there? Will they be exhausted by the time they get to your front door or will they still be filled with energy and happy to see you?! Is the area well lit? Gosh, they want to know for sure they are standing on the right doorstep before ringing that doorbell after dark. Is the entry swept clean, the glass and door wiped clean, and is there a pleasant greeting? I highly recommend that any signage that uses the word “no” be reworded or removed, ie., “No Soliciting.” This kind of energy is saying “No” to all who visit you. I am attaching an alternative sign you may print and use if you choose.

Sometimes, just the journey getting home can be a deciding factor in how life IN your home will be. While there are many things we can adjust through feng shui to secure a home that supports your life in the way you desire, the outside influences that are continually being projected upon you are tough to shake on a daily basis. Using Landform feng shui (a type of feng shui perspective), we can efficiently eliminate homes simply based on their geographic location. We have all seen houses and businesses that just sit, no matter who moves in they don’t make it. Landform is a HUGE issue for these properties. They sit vacant, decreasing the property value of those around them, soon becoming an eye sore for the surrounding community. Once we find a neighborhood that supports how you wish to create your life, then we move inside!

“My feng shui journey always begins with me. In order for me to share, give advice and teach I have to focus on getting real clear on who I am. How I show up in the world. Where my strengths and weaknesses are. How I can shift my beliefs, feelings and trajectory in a manner that not only suits me, but also serves the highest well being of all. That’s the true essence of feng shui—cause and effect.

I am here to support—sometimes with a firm stance, but always with love and empathy—and inspire a new way in which to see the world and your place in it.

I’m all about keeping it real, keeping it practical…and keeping it light!
Where do you want to go from here?!”
